Which Blizzard game has been the most succesfull for Blizzard?

Straight forward, which Blizzard game (So not theme aka Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo etc) has done the most for Blizzard?
Which game was the most popular, brought the most money, put Blizzard on the market etc... ?

Some might say WoW, some might say Overwatch, but which game do you pick?

For the poll, i put down just the title of the game. u can write down which version u prefer, aka diablo 2 or 3 etc.

This is like obvious answer there, bud - World of Warcraft.

There is no contest. Heck WoW gave Blizz the money they needed to survive and then the money they needed for everything else too, including Overwatch, HS and what not.

WoW is still the biggest game in their bottom line.

All my ignores are permanently filtered out and invisible to me. Responding to my posts with nonsense or insults is pointless, you're likely already invisible and if not - 3 clicks away. One ignore is much better than 3 pages of trolling.

Its quite obvious WoW, their other games aren't nearly as big or impactful.

Even today? I assume Overwatch is far more popular atm then WoW.

I mean, I guess you *could* argue for any of them, if you look at it at a very specific, very skewed slice of time.
    But overall, there's no question.
Only one game was a cultural phenomenon that opened so many doors and brought in people by the millions who would have never thought to do such "nerdy" or "dorky" things like play PC games until they came across it.

I mean, where would the world be without Blackthorne?

That's not what you asked, though.

OW isn't a game that makes a lot of continuous money though, hence why they're charging for "ow2"

It blew up at launch but now I doubt it makes much, definitely nowhere near wow.

Over its lifetime, Wow is likely the most popular.
Over its lifetime, Wow is likely the most profitable.
Diablo 2 probably put Blizzard on the map, and Wow helped it sustain.

In terms of revenue? Definitely WoW.
But in terms of net profit? I'd say a good case can be made for OW, and even more so for HS. WoW costs a ton to maintain and develop, these 2 don't.

Many people will say Warcraft, especially WoW. But the games that differentiated Blizzard from the rest of the studios in the late 90's/early 00's were Starcraft and Diablo. Without absolutely crushing hits like Brood War or D2, there would have likely been no WC3 (another resounding success) and very possibly, no WoW either.

Blizzard was on the map before D2.

The question isn't "which game allowed WoW to be successful" it's simply "which game was most successful?" There is only one answer to this question and it's so painfully obvious it really begs the question why bother asking in the first place. - - - Updated - - -

You'll find a lot of negativity on this forum but WoW is still Blizzard's primary source of income. Subscription models are stupidly lucrative from a business standpoint. It's not nearly as reliant on WoW today as it was a decade ago but it still represents the largest facet of their revenue breakdown.

Well, you can always say that SC and D2 paved the way for WC3's success, and therefore, for WoW's. As of today, I fail to see what success is WoW paving the way for. The point being that to measure success purely in monetary terms is quite shortsighted.

Hearthstone until they started getting greedy. Probably still more profitable than their other franchises.
